Feedback
I took up Bluepoint's Total Linux course last 2002 and time and again, what I've learned are still relevant today. Why? The course was developed with security and performance in mind.

In less than two months, I was able to learn the best practices in setting up Linux as a server: installing Linux at a bare minimum; removing standard and unnecessary programs, files and folders; protecting critical files and folders; compiling server software and the Linux kernel from scratch with optimized settings and necessary features only; installing servers in a jailed environment; designing and implementing a paranoid firewall.

Aside from the hands on lecture, we also had the toughest practical and written exams.

This quality training helped me obtain a score of 100% in my RHCE exam last March 2005. The first person I thanked was of course, my instructor, Engels Antonio of Bluepoint Institute.

Bluepoint is a non-profit Open Source education and development center. It is the first organization in the Philippines to focus on Linux and Open Source training.

VISION
Bluepoint seeks to be the primary institution focused on Linux and Open Source education based in the Philippines recognized worldwide.

We started providing vendor-independent Linux training in 1999 with our highly regarded Total Linux® course, which gradually revolved around the Red Hat Linux distribution - Red Hat being the global leader in developing, deploying and managing Linux and Open Source solutions.

In 2002, Bluepoint offered Red Hat's Linux training and acclaimed Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) programs throughout the Philippines as the official Red Hat Certified Training and Education Center (RHCTEC), at the time when RHCE was named one of IT industry's "10 Hottest Certifications" and ranked as the highest quality training and certification in IT.

MISSION
Purpose
We exist to enhance the IT skills of Filipinos by providing globally competitive Open Source education.

Business
We do this by advocating, educating people in, and developing Open Source software through trainings, seminars, fund-raising events, research, and development.

Values
We believe that Open Source provides the greatest degree of freedom in terms of operation as well as development. It is more cost effective and reliable than proprietary software in the long term. We are committed to excellent service, innovation, diversity, creativity, honesty, and integrity. Our accountability is to God.

Bluepoint started providing comprehensive PHP programming lessons in October 2001 by enriching its Web Development curriculum of HTML and JavaScript with PHP with SQL database integration modules. This Certified PHP Developer (CPD) certification course is now aptly called Extreme PHP.

Linux-Mandrake Launch
Thursday, Nov 25, 1999, 9:00 PM

Linux-Mandrake was officially launched in the Philippines by Bluepoint today at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City. Present during the event were special guests from the local media, De La Salle University (DLSU), Department of National Defense (DND), and selected IT companies invited by Bluepoint for its channel program. Mr. Walter Cang represented Katipunan Komputer Korporasyon (KKK), Bluepoint's master channel for Metro Manila. Bluepoint's Total Linux and Red Hat 101 students were also present to witness the product launch. Eddie Salonga was Master of Ceremonies.

PHOTO GUIDE. Magie Antonio presents screenshots of the latest GUI enhancements to Linux-Mandrake.

In his keynote address, Engels Antonio read an e-mail from Cyril Chaussin of MandrakeSoft SA. The message was primarily targeted at potential Bluepoint Channels:

"We are MandrakeSoft, publisher of the software distribution, Linux-Mandrake. Linux is an operating system considered like one of the most powerful and the most stable actually on the market today. MandrakeSoft is a French start-up, created in November 1998, and our product, Linux-Mandrake, has been voted the "Best Product of the Year" ; Best Distribution-Server ; Top 2 Distribution-Client, at the Linux World Expo in San Jose, California in August 1999. MandrakeSoft counts already more than 800,000 users in the world, thanks to a distribution network implanted in a dozen countries. You could have more information regarding our product and our company on our website. It is very important for you to be able to propose the choice of an OS to end-users (Windows and/or Linux). This would allow you to put a greater value on your brand image (modern, innovative), and to offer a solution to the fears of users connected to their lack of knowledge of the Linux system (partitioning of disk, etc...). In fact, you can offer them an immediate solution! We therefore wish to propose you a very interesting marketing solution which is not very expensive."

Guest speakers Danny Escasa of the Philippine Open Source Foundation and Miguel Paraz of IPhil Communications Inc. talked about Open Source and "How Linux is Doing Today in the Philippines," respectively. Magie Antonio discussed the features of Linux-Mandrake during the product launch proper.

Bluepoint Foundation Launch
Thursday, Jun 8, 2000, 11:00 PM

Bluepoint Institute of Higher Technology Foundation was formally launched today at the National Computer Center (NCC), University of the Philippines (UP) in Quezon City.

The event was successfully held at the NCC even though it coincided with this year's Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) anniversary which created a monstrous traffic jam at the Quezon City Memorial Circle that left many guests, media practitioners, and our refreshments sponsors stranded for several hours.

NCC Director General Ike Seneres gave the welcome remarks. Ms. Maita Gomez introduced the members of the foundation. Eddie Salonga talked about Buepoint's auxilliary projects in place of Sen. Jovito Salonga's speech - the former Senate President was unable to make it to the launch due to the traffic. Engels Antonio presented the foundation's objectives, the Bluepoint Open Network Engineering (ONE) program, and the Lalainya Beowulf cluster. Mari Kaimo facilitated the Q&A session.

INVOCATION: PRAYER ON THE OCCASION OF THE LAUNCHING BY BLUEPOINT OF RED HAT AND ITS RHCE PROGRAMS

ALMIGHTY, LOVING GOD:

We come to You at this morning hour knowing that without Your guidance, we cannot achieve what we seek to accomplish today. Many of us do not know how to express the deepest longings in our hearts but we know how much we miss when we fail to bring to You in prayer our hopes and fears, our plans and expectations. Forgive us, O Lord, for the pride and the presumption that makes us continue to manage our own affairs, to the exhaustion of mind and body and spirit.

You have created us in your image and we are grateful to You for the creation of our hands and minds. We have developed all kinds of technology that make life on earth more humane, useful, and fulfilling - but we have also used technology to degrade and destroy one another. We build churches and towering edifices - but with our ingenuity and resourcefulness, we also wreck them and wipe them out. We can be like angels, on the one hand, and then descend to the level of beasts, on the other. We are a strange paradox of goodness and evil.

Lord, help us to understand ourselves. We pray for some pattern of consistency in our relations with You and with one another. Teach us how to maintain life on an even keel, so that with a balanced life of faith and trust in You, we may love and trust one another.

We ask for Your blessings on the public launching today of Red Hat and its programs, so that with Your guidance, those in charge of Bluepoint may contribute to the development of a free, open, just and compassionate society in this part of our world, accountable to You and to our people. In Jesus' name, Amen.
