Software Freedom Day 2011

Bluepoint Linux Users Elite (BLUE), in cooperation with the National Computer Center (NCC), Advanced Science & Technology Institute (ASTI), International Open Source Network (IOSN) ASEAN+3, Red Hat APAC and Bluepoint Foundation, celebrated Software Freedom Day with the rest of the world today at the NCC in UP Diliman, Quezon City.

A couple of organizations that have been regularly joining our SFD celebrations since 2007 held their own SFD events this year, so we were not expecting as many participants as before. To our pleasant surprise, two venues at the NCC were needed to accommodate all of our pre-registered and walk-in attendees.

17 days to go before SFD! We currently have 92 pre-registered attendees and 108 slots left. :)

For those who are confused as to where our SFD celebration will be held:

1. Please refer to the welcome entry at http://sfd.bluepoint.com.ph/:

"Bluepoint Linux Users Elite (BLUE), in cooperation with the National Computer Center (NCC), Advanced Science & Technology Institute (ASTI) and Bluepoint Foundation, will celebrate Software Freedom Day on September 17 at the NCC in UP Diliman, Quezon City."

2. The registration panel which appears after you login to http://sfd.bluepoint.com.ph/ prompts:

"Would you like to pre-register for Software Freedom Day 2011 which will be held on September 17 at the National Computer Center in UP Diliman?"

So it's definitely at NCC in UP Diliman. We don't know where the confusion with UST as a venue came from. ;)

Just wanna ask what's this then: http://sfdphilippines.org/

cause when we were meeting, we heard one said he saw sfd philippines website, and the venue's in UST.

we tried to register individually and I got this on my email: http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n267/raven14_2006/4c075ca8.png

do you think the ust one is fake? :\

Marami pong pagdiriwang ng SFD ang magaganap sa buong bansa sa September 17:

http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2011/Philippines

Kayo na po ang bahala kung saan ninyo nais dumalo.

Narito ang opisyal na tala ng aming team:

http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2011/Philippines/MetroManila/BLUE

We hope that this clears things once and for all. To reiterate, our SFD celebration on September 17 will be held at the NCC in UP Diliman. It will start at 10AM and certificates of attendance will be distributed after the event.

We will start cleaning up the list of pre-registered attendees on Saturday, September 10. Please login at http://sfd.bluepoint.com.ph/ and click on "click here to cancel your registration" if you will not join us on the 17th. Our partners at the NCC need to know how many attendees are really coming so that they can allocate the appropriate room for us. Thanks in advance!

> What time odes this event start?

Gates open at 9:30 AM for the Software Freedom Day celebration at the National Computer Center (NCC) in UP Diliman on Saturday. Please bring a valid ID that we can cross-reference with your online registration. No need to print anything. :)

> What is it with the event on UST? Are they related?

UST is also hosting a Software Freedom Day celebration, and several folks who signed up here for the UP event also registered for the UST event. Most of them will attend the UST event, which is okay with us since SFD is SFD regardless of venue. But registering here and deciding at the 11th hour to attend somewhere else prevented other people who wanted to join the UP event from registering. :(

> This is my first time to join such event. Thank you for the response... :D

Thanks for joining us, and see you on Saturday at the NCC in UP Diliman! ;)

It's Software Freedom Day once again on September 15, 2012.

We are thankful to softwarefreedomday.org for recognizing our SFD 2011 celebration as a highly commended event from out of more than 400 teams that participated worldwide:

http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/en/competition/winners-2011

As our way of thanking last year's attendees, we are giving them a 10% discount on all Bluepoint training courses.

For those who are waiting for our SFD celebration this year, we regret to inform you that there will be no SFD event hosted by Bluepoint or BLUE this 2012. We were saddened by those who confirmed their attendance but did not show up on the actual day of our event at the NCC last year.

To the teams who spun out of BLUE, we are proud that you continued the spirit of Software Freedom Day; our SFD mission is done.

Many thanks to everyone who celebrated SFD with us from 2007 to 2011. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Until we meet again.
